CALIFORNIA FURNACE COMPASS INN TRIP SEPTEMBER 27, 2007
On this trip we visited the restored CALIFORNIA FURNACE that is located on the Rolling Rock Farm near Ligonier, PA. It was restored in 1966 by the Mellon Family. The furnace is located in a very beautiful park setting with picnic tables and cement charcoal grills. A sign explaining the history of the furnace was also very interesting. We gathered some great ideas for our own furnace and park area. After we visited the furnace we toured the COMPASS INN MUSEUM that is a restored 1799 Stage Coach Stop that is located on Route 30 in Laughlintown, PA. We had a WONDERFUL time here! After our tour we ate a Ruthie's Diner.

QUECREEK MINE RESCUE SITE SOMERSET HISTORICAL CENTER NOVEMBER 1, 2007
On this trip we visited the QUECREEK MINE RESCUE SITE where 9 trapped miners were rescued from a small drilled air shaft after the mine filled up with water. They have a really nice park area here. We then visited the SOMERSET HISTORICAL CENTER. They have a wonderful museum that depicts Rural Life from before the Revolutionary War to Present Times. They also have outdoor exhibits. We then enjoyed a late lunch at Oakhurst Tea Room.
