 Mount Vernon Ore Mines

OCTOBER 2006

Our group took a trip to the MOUNT VERNON ORE MINES that was once located across the road and on the hill from our Iron Furnace.  We were able to see where the mine entrance was originally located and also found some ore.  In the late 1800's the Greenlick Narrow Gauge Railroad came right to the mine entrance to be loaded and took the ore to Scottdale for the Charlotte Furnace.  There was also a lot of slag piles all around the area throughout the woods.
